Yonaguska colt brings $210,000

A colt by Yonaguska sold for the top price of $210,000 at Tuesday's opening

session Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's June Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training

and Horses of Racing Age. Joseph Brocklebank, agent for Repole Stable, purchased

the dark bay colt, who is a half-brother to Illinois Derby (G2) winner

Recapturetheglory (Cherokee Run).

The session topper was consigned by Paul Sharp, agent, who purchased the colt

for $135,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. At Saturday's under

tack show, the Kentucky-bred worked a quarter-mile in :21 3/5.

Cataloged as Hip No. 263, the colt is the third foal out of stakes-placed

Cold Awakening (Dehere), a half-sister to Grade 3 winners Rotsaluck (Rajab) and

Chilly Rooster (Arch). This is the same female family as Grade/Group 3 winner

and successful sire It's Freezing (T. V. Commercial).

After winning the Illinois Derby, Recapturetheglory finished fifth in the

Kentucky Derby (G1) and most recently was fourth in the Northern Dancer S. (G3)

at Churchill Downs. The sophomore has earned $402,543 from a record of 8-2-1-2.

A colt by Deputy Commander, who is a half-brother to Belmont S. (G1) winner

Da' Tara (Tiznow), sold for $120,000 to State Line Farm. Consigned by Mike

Akoury Jr., agent, the chestnut is out of multiple stakes-placed Torchera (Pirate's Bounty),

who is a full sister to Grade 1 heroine Private Persuasion. Torchera also is a

full sister to stakes winner Sound Wisdom, the second dam of Southwest S. (G3) winner

and Belmont runner-up Denis of Cork (Harlan's Holiday).

The highest-priced filly, a daughter of champion sprinter and noted sire

Smoke Glacken, sold for $62,000 to Cottonwood Stables, agent for Chad Stewart.

Cataloged as Hip 237, the bay filly is the second foal out of multiple stakes

winner and $390,078-earner Bruanna (Housebuster). Her second dam, three-time

stakes winner Jazzy One (Horatius), has also produced stakes winner Jazz Lady

(Indian Charlie) and 2007 Amsterdam S. (G2) runner-up Americanus (Yonaguska).

The juvenile lass was consigned by Parrish Farms, agent, and most recently sold for $65,000 at

last year's Keeneland September sale.

On Tuesday, 192 horses sold for $4,003,200, an increase of 27.7 percent

compared to the same session a year ago when 155 horses sold for $3,135,300. The

average price rose 3.1 percent, from $20,228 to $20,850.
