A real 'bushwacking' in the Underwood Bill Currin and Alvin Eisman's BUSHWACKER (Outflanker) gunned to the lead when the gates opened on Sunday's $105,800 Vernon O. Underwood S. (G3) at Hollywood Park and repelled late challenges from In Summation (Put It Back) and Greg's Gold (Lake George) to post a three-quarters of a length victory under jockey Joe Talamo. The Currin-trained five-year-old logged splits of :22, :44 1/5 and :56, and came out in the stretch, prompting Corey Nakatani aboard In Summation to lodge a claim of foul against the winner for interference. However, the stewards disallowed the claim and Bushwacker took his rightful place in the winner's circle. Sent off the 6-1 fourth choice in a five-horse field, Bushwacker was worth $14, $5.80 and $2.60 for finishing six furlongs on the Cushion Track in 1:08 2/5. The 2-1 In Summation just held even-money favorite Greg's Gold to third by a neck, returning $3.60 and $2.20 while show gave back $2.10. He was sold for $47,000 as an OBS August yearling.
