Dearest Trickski wires La Brea

Tom Mankiewicz's DEAREST TRICKSKI (Proudest Romeo) completed her rise from $10,000 claimer to Grade 1 vixen with a facile front-running score in the $250,000 La Brea S. (G1) over the Cushion Track at Santa Anita on Saturday. The John Sadler trainee, who was guided by Mike Smith, appeared to be the speed of the field and shot right to the front, establishing a tepid opening quarter-mile in :22 2/5. The sophomore miss quickened from there and was never in serious danger of being headed, reaching the half-mile in :44 2/5 and three-quarters in 1:08, prior to getting seven-eighths in a swift 1:21. The nearly 9-2 third choice paid $10.80, $6.60 and $4.20 while topping the $1 exotics: $62.50 exacta, $348.70 trifecta and $1,405.10 superfecta (9-14-7-10).

"John told me to just let this filly do her thing, to just leave her alone," Smith said. ""She's very quick and she left the gate today like we were going 870 (yards) at Los Al (Los Alamitos). She relaxed and finished great."

New York invader Unspoken Word (Catienus) broke well from the widest post and tracked in second for the duration of the race, briefly appearing as though she'd make it close in the final furlong prior to settling for a clear second. The 8-1 runner-up gave back $9.80 and $5.80. Glorified (Honour and Glory), the 4-1 second choice, settled into the third spot early and stayed there throughout, paying $4. Sindy with an S (Broken Vow), the 5-2 favorite, was in good position turning for home but never threatened while capping the super another 2 1/4 lengths behind.

Swiss Diva (Swiss Yodeler) was next and was followed by Ashley's Kitty (Tale of the Cat), Look Deep (Petionville), Frisk Her (Officer), Cathrine's Hope (In Excess [Ire]), Pinata (Vision and Verse) and Macadamia (Artax), while Dawn After Dawn (Successful Appeal), Shriek (Street Cry [Ire]) and Silky Smooth (Mr. Greeley) were withdrawn.

Dearest Trickski improved her lifetime line to 12-8-2-0, $280,500. The Florida-bred has won seven of her last eight races, which began with an eight-length win against $10,000 claiming company at Lone Star. Produced from the stakes-placed Trickski (Peteski), the winner has a two-year-old full brother named Faster Than Flash and an unnamed yearling half-sister by Snow Ridge. She was bred by Dr. K. K. and V. Devi Jayaraman.

"She's been great on the synthetics (now 4-3-1-0 on all-weather tracks)," Sadler explained. "Some (horses) don't like the synthetics, so you hope you have some that really will move up on it and she's been that horse."
