You Bettarun Fast to win Railbird

Stephen and Patricia Fitzpatrick's BETTARUN FAST (Kelly Kip) bid four wide in midstretch and rallied gamely under Aaron Gryder to annex the $100,000 Railbird S. (G3) at Hollywood Park on Saturday. The three-year-old bay sat in fourth through fractions of :21 4/5, :44 1/5 and 1:09 3/5, before making her move late to come home a three-quarters of a length winner over Mystery Girl (Stormy Atlantic).

Bettarun Fast left the gate at 5-1 to return $12.80, $6.40 and $3.80 while Mystery Girl gave back $7.60 and $3.80. So Long Sonoma (American Chance) paid $3 for the show as the 2-1 favorite. The $1 exotics returned $44.80 for the exacta and $204.50 for the 4-1-3 trifecta. Silly Little Mama (Old Topper), Acceleration (Vision and Verse) and El Mirage Queen (Gilded Time) followed.

Bred in Florida by Shamrock Thoroughbreds & Michael and Helen Reynolds, Bettarun Fast is out of the unraced mare Split Decision (Dispersal), who most recently produced an unraced two-year-old colt named Soldiers Decision (Lost Solider), a yearling filly called Invisible Decision (Invisible Ink) and a 2006 colt by Weekend Cruise.

The winner of $228,505, Bettarun Fast now sports a record of 9-5-2-0 and adds this to a score in the Santa Paula S. (G3) at Santa Anita earlier this year as well as a stakes victory at Calder last year. The Vladimir Cerin trainee was purchased as a yearling at the OBS August Yearling Sale for $9,500 before RNAing at $30,000 in the OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training last year.
