Rich In Spirit much the best in Locust Grove Glen Hill Farm's homebred RICH IN SPIRIT (Repriced) took over in midstretch and cruised home a facile 1 1/2-length winner of the $165,450 Locust Grove H. (G3) over the Churchill Downs turf course on Saturday. Always prominent under Mark Guidry, the Tom Proctor charge readily overtook pacesetter Cape Hope (Cape Town) in the lane and strolled home from there, finishing off the nine furlongs in 1:50 on the firm course. Sent off as the 3-5 choice, the winner was worth $3.40, $2.80 and $2.10 while keying the $31.80 exacta, $133.60 trifecta and $509.40 superfecta (8-1-4-2). Cape Hope did well to retain the place spot three-quarters of a length clear of her nearest pursuer. The placer was sent off at odds of 22-1 and paid $10.80 and $5. Pyrana (Anabaa) earned the show from well off the pace, giving back $2.80 as the 3-1 second choice. Anegada (Arch) was next and followed by Dynamist (Dynaformer), More Than Promised (More Than Ready) and Story's Image (Pistols and Roses). Sweet Science (Diesis [GB]) was withdrawn. Rich in Spirit earned her second graded stakes win, with both coming over this course, following a win in last year's Regret S. (G3). The lass also earned a placing in the Mint Julep H. (G3) in her prior start, and boosted her career earnings to $487,951 from a 15-6-4-1 career mark. The winning lass was bred in Florida and produced from the winning Qualatative (Woodman). Rich in Spirit counts an unraced two-year-old colt named Top Management (Point Given) and an unnamed 2006 filly by Forestry as half-siblings.
