Swap Fliparoo passes the Test Hobeau Farm's SWAP FLIPAROO (Exchange Rate) trailed in last during the early running of Saturday's $250,000 Test S. (G1) at Saratoga, but rallied through tight quarters on the rail to score her first graded win at the end. With Eibar Coa aboard, the sophomore miss was two lengths clear at the line and finished seven furlongs on the fast track in 1:24. It was a bumpy start for Swap Fliparoo as Original Spin (Distorted Humor) ducked out and hit the eventual winner, who was coming out of the stall just to her outside. As Swap Fliparoo checked in last, Original Spin went on to take the lead, posting splits of :22, :44 3/5 and 1:10. All the while, Swap Fliparoo was making up ground, sliding between horses and then moving to the inside to save ground on the turn. Holding that spot despite being in tight, the Allen Jerkens trainee managed to slip through to Original Spin's inside and go on for the win. "The race was kind of the way I thought it was going to be," Coa said. "I had a plan, and the plan was to stay back there and let the speed go and, hopefully, the speed would start backing up. I never panicked. I saved ground, thinking I was going to swing out at some time. But the rail was open, so I just stayed there and everything worked out beautifully." Sent off the near 6-1 third choice in the 13-horse field, Swap Fliparoo paid out $13.80, $8.80 and $7 while keying the $572 exacta and $17,145 trifecta. Original Spin held second by a length over Misty Rosette (Stormin Fever), returning $30 and $17.20 as the 34-1 longest shot on the board. Show was worth $14.20 at 23-1 and it was just a nose back to Capote's Crown (Capote), who completed the incredible $96,046 superfecta (10-9-4-7). Livermore Valley (Mt. Livermore) came next and was followed by Any Limit (Limit Out), Win McCool (Giant's Causeway), Hello Liberty (Forest Camp), Wild Gams (Forest Wildcat), Joint Effort (Runaway Groom), Diplomat Lady (Forestry), Sabatini (Five Star Day) and Ready to Please (More Than Ready). Ex Caelis (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Wild Fit (Wild Wonder) were withdrawn. The Florida-bred Swap Fliparoo brought a final bid of $75,000 from Montgomery Farm at the OBS March two-year-old sale, but eventually ended up back with Hobeau Farm before she began her racing career. Out of the winning Buckaroo mare Fliparoo, the gray lass is her dam's first stakes-winning offspring. She captured the Road Princess S. in April and owns placings in the Genuine Risk Breeders' Cup H. (G2), Old Hat S. (G3), Nassau County Breeders' Cup S. (G2) and Queen of Song S. from this year as well. Her career mark now reads 16-4-8-1 and she's accumulated $398,858 in lifetime earnings.
