Hometown star shines in Iselin Char-Mari Stable's locally based PARK AVENUE BALL (Citidancer) moved to the fore turning for home and stayed on gamely to the wire to take the $265,000 Philip H. Iselin Breeders' Cup H. (G3) at Monmouth on Saturday. Breaking alertly beneath Chris DeCarlo, the four-year-old sat off pacesetter Sinister G (Matty G) through early splits of :23 2/5, :47 and 1:11 1/5 for the opening three-quarters before asserting himself in the lane, eventually completing the nine panels in 1:49 3/5 on the fast track. The Jim Ryerson trainee, who was earning his third stakes win at the current meet, was sent off as the 7-5 choice and rewarded his backers with mutuels of $4.80, $3 and $2.80. Survivalist (Danzig) stayed on bravely through the stretch and did well to garner the place spot at 8-1, good for $6 and $4.40 while finishing the $32.40 exacta. Master Command (A.P. Indy), the 5-2 second choice, closed well on the inside to fall just shy of the place. The colt paid $3.40 and completed the $44.50 trifecta ($1). Pacesetter Sinister G stayed on for fourth at 15-1 to round out the 2-3-1-6 superfecta ($1), which totaled $254.40. Network (Pulpit) was next, followed by Sinners N Saints (Saint Ballado), Tap Day (Pleasant Tap) and Zoffinger (Unbridled). Park Avenue Ball continued to prove his affinity for the Monmouth oval, sporting a mark of 9-6-2-1 at the Jersey Shore venue. Overall, the four-year-old has compiled a record of 17-7-5-2 with earnings of $931,600. Included on Park Avenue Ball's resume are wins in the Futurity S. (G2), Long Branch Breeders' Cup S. (G3), Tyro S., Frisk Me Now S. and the recent Skip Away S., as well as placings in the Haskell Invitational H. (G1), Hutcheson S. (G2), Withers S. (G3), Sapling S. (G3) and Salvator Mile S. (G3). Bred in the Garden State by C J Hesse Inc., Park Avenue Ball was produced from the winning Road to the Ball (Cahill Road) and counts the unraced two-year-old colt named Road to Perfection (Perfect) and an unnamed 2006 colt by Forestry as half-brothers.
