Cryptoquip wires Arlington Oaks foes Elisabeth Alexander's homebred CRYPTOQUIP (Cryptoclearance) gamely repulsed the bid of Coolwind (Forest Wildcat) to win Saturday's $144,500 Arlington Breeders' Cup Oaks (G3) by a half-length. Sent right to the lead by Robby Albarado after the gates opened, the Tom Proctor-trained sophomore lass led the way through splits in :25, :48, 1:11 4/5 and 1:36 2/5 before completing 1 1/8 miles over the fast track in 1:49 2/5. The dark bay miss earned her first stakes win and improved her overall mark to 4-2-1-0 with $124,590 in earnings. Cryptoquip was officially making her stakes debut in this one, but she had an apparent victory in the Queen City Oaks at River Downs nullified when officials declared the race a no contest due to a starting gate malfunction in her previous outing. Sent off the near 3-1 second choice in a field of six, she returned $7.80, $3.80 and $2.80 on Saturday, keying the $17.40 exacta with 6-5 favorite Coolwind, who gave back mutuels of $3 and $2.20. Rolling Sea (Sefapiano) finished another 4 1/2 lengths back at 3-1 and paid out $2.80. The trifecta was worth $32.80, and the 3-5-6-2 superfecta, with 6-1 My Chickadee (Pleasant Tap) in fourth, was $97.80. Meadow Skippin (Skip Away) and American Diva (Quiet American) came next under the wire, and Baghdaria (Royal Academy) was scratched. Bred in Ohio, Cryptoquip is out of the unraced Rose Hips (Quiet American), the dam of stakes winner Come Hither (Left Banker), an unraced juvenile colt named Nifty Me (Menifee), a yearling filly named Home Remedy (Deputy Commander) and a 2006 colt by Northern Afleet. This is the same female family of 2005 Personal Ensign S. (G1) winner Shadow Cast (Smart Strike) and Canadian champion Legarto (Roberto).
