Vacare cruises in Pucker Up Lothenbach Stables Inc.'s homebred VACARE (Lear Fan) asserted herself at the head of the lane and strolled home a convincing four-length winner of the $200,000 Pucker Up S. (G3) over the Arlington sod on Saturday. Breaking alertly beneath Carlos Marquez Jr., the unbeaten sophomore lass stalked the fractions carved out by Walklikeanegyptian (Ire) (Danehill) -- :24 1/5, :49 1/5 and 1:14 1/5 -- for the opening six furlongs before taking over. The bay completed the 1 1/8 miles over the firm going in 1:49 3/5 and paid out $6, $4.20 and $3 as the 2-1 second choice for conditioner Chris Block. Walklikeanegyptian battled hard to the wire and held the place spot by a head, paying $8.20 and $4.60 while finishing off the $50.40 exacta at 10-1. Ballet Pacifica (Minardi), making her first start in the United States, closed quite well to garner third at 7-2. Show was good for $4.60, while the trifecta returned $259.60. My Chickadee (Pleasant Tap) was prominent early and did well to sit on the bottom of the $2,428.40 superfecta (7-1-8-2) at 34-1. Chetten County (Giant's Causeway) came next and was trailed by Ladyburn (El Prado [Ire]), Palace Rumor (Royal Anthem), 8-5 favorite Soothsay (Ire) (Mujadil) and Royal Dazzle (Royal Academy). Precious Kitten (Catienus) was scratched. Vacare has now reeled off a trio of facile wins to start her career and upped her bankroll to $156,000 with the winner's share. She was bred in the Bluegrass State and produced from the winning Valid Appeal mare Appealing Storm. She has a trio of unraced half-sisters, including the two-year-old named Nevergonnabelong (Belong to Me), an unnamed yearling by Yankee Gentleman and an unnamed 2006 filly by Flatter.
