'Cool' win in Floral Park Sabine Stable's homebred WIN MCCOOL (Giant's Causeway) dueled on the front with Pretty Imposing (Defrere) for the opening half-mile before pulling clear to an impressive 1 1/2-length tally in the $110,900 Floral Park H. (G3) at Belmont Park on Saturday. Breaking alertly beneath Garrett Gomez, the sophomore filly was on the outside through splits of :22 and :44 2/5 for the opening four panels before putting in her potent late run, stopping the timer in 1:09 2/5 for the fast six furlongs. Trained by Robert Barbara, the chestnut was let off at odds of 15-1 and rewarded her backers with payoffs of $33.40, $15 and $8.70. Great Intentions (Cat Thief) rated in a perfect spot in third early and had run turning for home, but could never get to the winner. The 9-2 shot was good for $7.40 and $5 while completing the $222 exacta. Stormy Kiss (Arg) (Bernstein) rated in midpack early before moving outside and putting in an energetic effort to garner show honors, two lengths clear of her nearest rival. The classy four-year-old paid $4.20 and finished off the $1,128 trifecta at odds of 7-2. Swap Fliparoo (Exchange Rate), the 2-1 favorite, never got into contention for the win but rallied to gain fourth, sitting on the bottom of the healthy $3,243 superfecta (6-3-7-8). For All We Know (Stephen Got Even), Indian Flare (Cherokee Run), Ever Elusive (Forestry) and Pretty Imposing completed the order of finish, while Grecian Lover (Friendly Lover) was withdrawn. Win McCool upped her career mark to 9-3-1-1, with earnings of $176,482. Runner-up in the Nassau Breeders' Cup S. (G2) earlier this year, the Kentucky-bred filly entered the Floral Park off a pair of unplaced finishes. "She always has an excuse; something always happens," Barbara said. "(In the Princess two starts back), she lost her right-front shoe. At Saratoga (last time), she jumped out of the gate and hit the back of the gate with her ankle and she had a big hematoma. We've tried to take our time with her. The older she's getting, the better she's getting in the mind. She's always been a headache for everybody, but finally, she's come to hand. She's got tons of talent, but it just never went right until today." The winner was produced from the Grade 3-winning Win Crafty Lady (Crafty Prospector), who captured three black-type events and earned $303,844. Win Crafty Lady has been quite productive in the breeding shed as well, producing multiple Grade 2-winning millionaire and young sire Graeme Hall (Dehere), Grade 1 heroine Harmony Lodge (Hennessy) and the multiple stakes-winning lass Win's Fair Lady (Dehere). The mare is also responsible for an unnamed yearling filly by Unbridled's Song, as well as an unnamed 2006 filly by Storm Cat. Barbara said he would point Win McCool to the Gallant Bloom H. (G2) on October 8.
