India best in Cotillion

Lyon Stables' INDIA (Hennessy) took over at the half-mile point and powered home an emphatic 1 1/4-length winner of the $490,000 Cotillion Breeders' Cup H. (G2) at Philadelphia Park on Saturday. Breaking alertly beneath Joe Bravo, the talented chestnut tracked the early pace established by Baby Bird (Cape Town) before putting that one away, eventually finishing off the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43 1/5 on the wet fast dirt. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the sophomore miss gave back $7, $3.80 and $4 while topping the $37 exacta and $139.60 trifecta at 5-2.

Amandatude (Aptitude) closed from third to grab the place spot, worth $5.20 and $4 at 7-1. Pacesetter Baby Bird did well to retain the show spot, paying $5.20 at 6-1 in the process while a neck behind the place. Miraculous Miss (Mr. Greeley) was another 4 1/4 lengths farther back and was trailed by Miss Shop (Deputy Minister). Ermine (Exchange Rate) and Miss Savannah Rose (Strategic Mission) were withdrawn.

India upped her career mark to 10-4-2-1, with earnings of $452,859. The miss has now captured back-to-back two-turn races, including the Without Feathers S. in her latest start. The miss also owns placings in the Forward Gal S. (G2) and Valley Stream S. (G3).

Bred in the Bluegrass State by Summer Wind Farm, the three-year-old miss attracted a bid of $400,000 at the 2004 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga August Yearling Sale prior to being acquired by her current connections. Produced from the stakes winning Misty Hour (Miswaki), India was preceded in stakes glory by her half-sister Pilfer (Deputy Minister), and counts the unraced yearling colt named Vinerate (Vindication) and the 2006 filly named Andes (Forestry) as half-siblings.
