Great Intentions determined in Gallant Bloom

Barry K. Schwartz's GREAT INTENTIONS (Cat Thief) shrugged off a stubborn Win McCool (Giant's Causeway) at the head of the lane and cruised home a four-length victress in the $150,000 Gallant Bloom H. (G2) at Belmont Park on Sunday. Breaking alertly under Javier Castellano, the four-year-old miss set contested splits of  :22 1/5 and :45  for the opening half-mile, before completing the 6 1/2 furlongs over the fast track in a swift 1:16. Conditioned by Michael Hushion, the bay was part of a coupled entry with Nothing But Fun (Dixie Union) and paid $4.80, $2.90 and $2.10 while topping the $39.80 exacta and $108 trifecta (1-2-5) at 7-5.

Annika Lass (Mister Jolie) did her best running in the latter part of the race to take second by a nose while never threatening the winner. Sent off as the 19-1 longest shot, the five-year-old was good for $12.80 and $4. Getcozywithkaylee (Zafarrancho [Arg]) dug in late and just came up shy for the place as the 5-1 fourth choice. The five-year-old bay gave back $3.40 for the show. Win McCool was next and followed by Swap Fliparoo (Exchange Rate) and Nothing But Fun.

Great Intentions returned to her winning ways for the first time since February and earned her second graded tally, following a triumph in the First Flight H. (G2). The speedy miss also owns victories in the Oh What a Windfall S. and Flip's Pleasure S., with placings in the Floral Park H. (G3) and Correction H. For her career, Great Intentions has banked $354,939 from a 14-6-2-1 record.

Bred in Kentucky by Alex Rankin, R. Lenihan and P. Lenihan, the winner brought the gavel down for $65,000 at the 2003 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She is out of the multiple stakes-winning Polish Navy mare Packet, who has also produced an unnamed 2006 Cat Thief colt.
