Summerplace's homebred KELLY'S LANDING (Patton) started his new year off with
a stylish 1 1/4-length win in the $100,000
Mr. Prospector
H. (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. Breaking cleanly, the dark bay
prompted pacesetter Weigelia (Safely's Mark) through early fractions of :22 1/5
and :44. With jockey Edgar Prado, Kelly's Landing took over entering the
stretch, opening a 1 1/2-length lead through five furlongs in :56 en route to
taking the six-furlong affair in 1:08 4/5 on the fast track.Redeeming himself after a 10th-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1),
Kelly's Landing added a third graded stakes win to his resume. The six-year-old
gelding had previously captured last year's Phoenix Breeders' Cup S. (G3) and
the 2005 Aristides Breeders' Cup H. (G3). He also finished second behind the
late champion Lost in the Fog in the 2006 Aristides. The Eddie Kenneally pupil
now owns a record of 19-8-3-1, $552,557.
"In the Breeders' Cup (Sprint) it didn't help to break from the far outside
(14), and he did all his running out in the middle of the track, which was
definitely not the place to be that day," Kenneally said. "I knew he'd be right
up on the pace today after he broke sharp. He's been training super."

The 2-1 favorite, Kelly's Landing paid his investors $6.20, $3.40 and $2.80.
The near 3-1 High Finance (Talk is Money) finished second, returning $4.20 and $3.20,
and rounded out the $12.40 exacta ($1). Mach Ride (Pentelicus) missed second by
a nose at 7-1 and gave back $4.20. The $1 trifecta was good for $47.60, and the
8-1-2-4 superfecta ($1), with Hither Lane (Mr. Greeley) in fourth at 5-2,
totaled $140.80.
Completing the order of finish were Blazing Purrsuit (Tale of the Cat) and Weigelia. Paradise Dancer (Langfuhr) and Slam Bammy (Grand Slam) were scratched.
Bred in the Bluegrass State, Kelly's Landing is out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Best
Game (Great Above), who is also the dam of the unraced three-year-old filly
Torch Song (Sultry Song).
His connections are considering the Deputy Minister H. (G3) on February 3 at
Gulfstream and could ship to Dubai to run in the $2 million Golden Shaheen
(UAE-G1) on March 31.
