Zayat Stables LLC's BARONESS THATCHER (Johannesburg) came three wide to take the
lead in the stretch and kept a closing Runway Rosie (Include) at bay by a
half-length late to win the $108,200
Santa Ysabel S. (G3) at Santa Anita on
Saturday. Saddled for the initial time by Patrick Biancone, the chestnut filly
was positioned perfectly by jockey Garrett Gomez just off the dueling Seaside
Affair (Sea of Secrets) and Mistical Plan (Game Plan) early, before leaving that
pair behind turning for home. Baroness Thatcher completed the 1 1/16 miles in
1:44 1/5 on the fast dirt and rewarded her backers with mutuels of $8.60, $4.80 and $3 as the 3-1
second choice.Runway Rosie ran a game race in the second spot, paying $6.20 and $3.20 at
6-1. The winning exacta ($1) was worth $28.60. Mistical Plan stayed on for the
show at 6-5, good for $2.40 while completing the $69.50 trifecta ($1). Seaside
Affair, another 2 1/2 lengths back, concluded the $292.70 superfecta ($1)
(1-3-9-8) at 7-1 and
was followed by Adoradora (Mr. Greeley), Setafire (Jump Start) and Back in the
Shade (Put It Back). Kimmy Potter (Broken Vow) and Le Cirque (Dynaformer) were
scratched.

Baroness Thatcher earned her first stakes win in here, bumping her career
line to 5-2-1-0, $107,523. Bred in Kentucky by Sally Andersen, the sophomore
lass attracted a bid of $130,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May Sale. Produced from
the stakes-placed Natkeeta (Gulch), the winner has a two-year-old half-sister
named Oriental Jade (Orientate) and an unnamed yearling half-brother by Chapel
Royal.
