Jump On In pounces on Santa Ynez foes C R K Stable's JUMP ON IN (Jump Start) justified her 4-5 favoritism with a commanding, 3 3/4-length score in Monday's $150,000 Santa Ynez S. (G2), the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day feature at Santa Anita. After bobbling slightly at the break, the bay sophomore rated kindly for Corey Nakatani in the early going, stalking the pace along the rail through splits of :23 and :46 1/5. She then swung to the outside entering the stretch and quickly asserted her supremacy, finishing the seven-furlong affair in 1:23 2/5 on the fast track. In so doing, she became the first graded stakes winner for her young sire Jump Start. Trained by John Sadler, Jump On In returned $3.80, $2.40 and $2.20. "At the top of the lane, I wasn't worried at all," Nakatani said. "I knew she was going to go by those two leaders. I just gave her a couple of reminders to keep her focused. I'm looking forward to going two turns." Quick Little Miss (Freud), who raced wide throughout while tracking the pace, finished with interest for second by a length. As the nearly 5-2 second choice in the seven-filly field, the runner-up paid $2.60 and $2.10, ending the $4.10 exacta ($1). Pacesetter Sekira (Holy Bull) saved third to give back $3 at 6-1 and round out the $13.50 trifecta ($1). The 8-1 Com Easy (Halo's Image) raced forwardly in her stakes debut and thrust her head in front through six furlongs in 1:11, but she tired inside the final furlong to wind up fourth, resulting in a $35.50 superfecta (1-5-2-4) ($1). Here Comes Ray Ray (Yonaguska), Summertime (Siberian Summer) and Market Day (GB) (Tobougg [Ire]) completed the order under the wire. Leave a Message (Favorite Trick) and She's Included (Include) were scratched. A five-length allowance winner at this track last time out, Jump On In was avenging her loss to Quick Little Miss two back in the Moccasin S. at Hollywood Park, in which she was caught late and settled for runner-up honors. Jump On In was an impressive debut maiden winner at Del Mar, then took the plunge into Grade 1 company in her next start in the Del Mar Debutante S. (G1) and reported home fifth. With this first stakes win on her resume, her bankroll has doubled to $176,800 from her 5-3-1-0 line. "She's finally getting caught up," Sadler said. "Things didn't didn't go right for her before the Debutante at Del Mar. That first race (her 5 1/2-furlong maiden score in 1:03 3/5) was probably the fastest two-year-old filly race in the country last year for a maiden. Now it's just been a matter of getting her head back the way we wanted it." Jump On In was bred in Kentucky by James M. Herbener Jr., and sold to her current connections for $410,000 as a two-year-old in training at the 2006 Barretts May sale. She is out of the unraced Fire Maker mare Lucky'n Loved, who is herself a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Cassidy (Jolie's Halo). Lucky'n Loved has since produced an unnamed yearling filly by Zavata. Sadler said that he has not decided where Jump On In would race next.
