Appealing Zophie earned her first win on Saturday since taking the Spinaway
(Lou Hodges Jr.) |
Heiligbrodt Racing Stable's APPEALING ZOPHIE (Successful Appeal) took her
customary spot on the front end early and was never headed en route to a 4 1/4-length score in the $200,000
Silverbulletday S. (G3) at Fair Grounds on
Saturday. The Steve Asmussen charge broke well beneath John Velazquez from her
two post, set moderate fractions of :24 3/5, :48 4/5 and 1:13 3/5 for the
opening six panels, and shook off an erratic Total (Forest Wildcat) in the
stretch to record the win. The dark bay filly completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44
over the fast track and gave back $5.80, $3.40 and $2.60 as the 9-5 choice.
Total tracked the winner throughout and appeared to have momentum at the head
of the stretch, but lost her action late, ultimately settling for the place. The
2-1 second option paid $3.80 and $2.60 and completed the $17 exacta. Get Ready
Bertie (More Than Ready), the 5-2 third choice, made a threatening move turning
for home but couldn't keep up late, paying $2.20 and finishing off the $45.20
trifecta. Dawn After Dawn (Successful Appeal) concluded the $267 superfecta
(2-3-6-1) at 19-1, and was trailed by High Heels (E Dubai), Gal Wonder (Three
Wonders), Not in My House (Chester House), Grace Happens (Aptitude) and Meadowlanding (Meadowlake).
The winner was bred in the Sunshine State by Luann Baker and brought the
gavel down at $150,000 at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton February Two-Year-Olds in
Training Sale. The dark bay was produced from the winning Zophie (Hawkster) and
has an unnamed juvenile half-brother by Tour d'Or as well as an unnamed
yearling half-brother by Trippi.
