J. Paul Reddam's MISTICAL PLAN (Game Plan) used her rail post to take the
lead soon after the start of Saturday's $396,000
Fair Grounds
Oaks (G2) and was never headed en route to an easy 3 1/4-length victory at
the New Orleans track. With Corey Nakatani aboard, the bay miss turned back a
challenge from Appealing Zophie (Successful Appeal) early, posting fractions of
:23 2/5, :46 4/5, 1:11 2/5 and 1:37 before finishing 1 1/16 miles on the fast
dirt in 1:44.
"She's been a handful before," Nakatani said. "Today, I just let her run her
best race. What more can you say about Doug O'Neill and young horses, and Mr.
Reddam putting up the money to get those young horses?"
Sent off the 7-1 fourth choice, Mistical Plan paid $16.40, $6.60 and $5.20
while starting the $56.20 exacta and $448 trifecta. Octave (Unbridled's Song),
the 6-5 favorite, rallied from near the back of the field to take second by 3
1/4 lengths over Whatdreamsrmadeof (Graeme Hall), returning $3 and $2.60. Show
was worth $5.20 at 16-1, and it was another 3 1/4 lengths back to Dawn After Dawn
(Successful Appeal), who ended the $5,812.60 superfecta (1-4-5-6).

Le Chateau (Chester House), Get Ready Bertie (More Than Ready), Total (Forest
Wildcat) and Appealing Zophie completed the order under the wire.
Mistical Plan earned her first stakes win in last year's Cover Gal S. and
also ran second in the Pocahontas S. (G3). She made her three-year-old bow in
the Santa Ysabel S. (G3) two back, finishing third, before capturing the
Sunshine Millions Oaks by a gutsy nose. With the winner's share from this one,
the bay lass improved her line to 8-4-1-1 and doubled her earnings to $475,765.
Bred in California by Carol Anderson, Mistical Plan is the only stakes scorer
out of the winning Mistical Bel (Bel Bolide), who has an unraced juvenile filly
named Mistisized (Capsized) and a yearling colt named Really Surprised (For
Really).
