Sealy Hill prevails in Bourbonette

Melnyk Racing Stables' homebred SEALY HILL (Point Given) offered a strong move on the far turn to reach the front, opened a clear lead into the stretch, and held on to win Saturday's $150,000 Bourbonette Breeders' Cup S. (G3) at Turfway Park. The Mark Casse-trained sophomore filly was fully extended late by runner-up Panty Raid (Include), but she was able to notch her first graded triumph with a head decision.

Winner of the Glorious Song S. over the Polytrack at Woodbine last year, Sealy Hill finished second when making her 2007 debut in a Gulfstream Park allowance and made her second start of the season in the Bourbonette. She rated in fifth under Patrick Husbands while 38-1 Acadia Breeze (Royal Academy) set splits in :23 3/5, :47 and 1:12 1/5, and quickly advanced while four wide on the far turn to dispatch the pacesetter. Sealy Hill reached the seven-furlong point in 1:24 3/5 with a 2 1/2-length advantage, but Panty Raid closed fast late to just miss. It was an especially admirable effort for the runner-up, who broke through the gate and ran off prior to the start. Aspiring (Seeking the Gold) finished a clear third, another 2 3/4 lengths back at 26-1.

After finishing a mile over the Polytrack in 1:37 2/5, Sealy Hill returned $9.60, $5 and $3.80 as the near 4-1 second choice in the 12-horse line-up. Panty Raid, who drifted up to 7-1 late, was good for $6.80 and $5.60 and capped the $72 exacta. Aspiring paid $9.20 and boosted the $1,794.60 trifecta. The 5-4-12-2- superfecta, with 8-1 Our Dancing Babe (Belong to Me) 4 3/4 lengths back in fourth, totaled $10,053.40. Silverinyourpocket (Silver Deputy), the 9-5 favorite, came next and was followed by Indian War Dress (Indian Charlie), Bavarian Belle (More Than Ready), Olivine (Royal Academy), Acadia Breeze, Rivanna River (Storm Creek), Tale of the Queen (Tale of the Cat) and Floral Park (Forest Wildcat). Not Two Quiet (Quiet American) and Tessa Blue (Awesome Again) were scratched.

Bred in Ontario, Sealy Hill has now earned $231,535 from a 5-3-1-1 line. She's out of Boston Twist (Boston Harbor), who also captured the Glorious Song S. as a juvenile and is also the dam of the unraced juvenile colt Pengola Court (Silver Deputy).
