Sharp Susan never tested in Herecomesthebride

WinStar Farm LLC's homebred SHARP SUSAN (Touch Gold) took command soon after the start and left little doubt as to who was best on this occasion with an emphatic three-length win in the $107,000 Herecomesthebride S. (G3) at Gulfstream on Sunday. Trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Cornelio Velasquez, the sophomore filly established splits of :24 2/5, :49 2/5, 1:13 3/5 and 1:36 3/5 for the opening mile, before finishing off 1 1/8 miles over firm turf in 1:47 4/5. The winner returned $5.80, $3.60 and $2.60 as the 9-5 favorite, and keyed $1 exotics of $12.70 (exacta), $36.90 (trifecta) and $194.40 (3-8-4-2 superfecta).

Communique (Smart Strike) was last into the stretch but rallied strongly to earn the place spot by a neck. The 4-1 third choice paid $4.80 and $3.20. Perfect Motion (Wild Event) tracked the winner into the stretch but had no answer late, settling for the third spot at 3-1. Show gave back $3. My Golden Quest (Coronado's Quest) completed the superfecta another half-length back and was followed by Snow Cone (Cryptoclearance), Dantrelle Light (Colony Light), Naseem (Point Given) and Nalanda (Thunder Gulch).

Sharp Susan earned her second consecutive win at the meet to up her mark to 7-3-1-0, $123,883. This marked the first stakes triumph for the dark bay filly.

The Kentucky-bred winner reached a final bid of $340,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She is out of Winter's Gone (Dynaformer), who is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1-winning turf star Bien Bien (Manila) and has also produced 2005 Las Virgenes S. (G1) heroine Sharp Lisa (Dixieland Band) as well as Malibu S. (G1) runner-up Spring At Last (Silver Deputy).

Mott indicated that Sharp Susan could show up next in the May 4 Edgewood S. at Churchill Downs and tabbed Hollywood Park's American Invitational Oaks (G1) on July 7 as a possible long-term goal for the filly.
