Kettleoneup sails home Tom Crouch's homebred KETTLEONEUP (Victory Gallop) annexed her first stakes victory when capturing the $250,000 Sixty Sails H. (G3) by 3 3/4 lengths at Hawthorne on Saturday. Trained by Michael Tomlinson and ridden by Calvin Borel, the chestnut lass settled in last early while pacesetter Mo Cuishle (Saint Ballado) set opening splits of :23, :46 3/4 and 1:11 2/5 before giving way to Rolling Sea (Sefapiano) at the top of the stretch. Kettleoneup angled out off the turn to begin her drive while trying to avoid the drifting My Chickadee (Pleasant Tap). She went around her rival and drew clear to finish the 1 1/8-mile affair in 1:50 4/5 over the fast track. Sent off as the 5-2 third choice, Kettleoneup returned $7.40, $4.40 and $2.80 while keying the $57.20 exacta, $154 trifecta and $269 superfecta (4-1-3-2). My Chickadee gave back $8.80 and $4.60 for holding 5-2 second pick Rolling Sea, who paid $2.80, to third by 2 1/2 lengths. Even-money favorite Mo Cuishle and Coolwind (Forest Wildcat) completed the order of finish. Kettleoneup broke her maiden by an impressive 11 lengths at Mountaineer in her fifth start. She quickly followed that with 12 1/2-length allowance score and made her first stakes start a runner-up finish in the Pippin S. at Oaklawn Park two starts back. The four-year-old just missed by a head in the Azeri Breeders' Cup H. (G3) prior to this win, which moved moved her line to 11-4-5-0 with career earnings of $267,279. Born in the Bluegrass State, Kettleoneup is the fifth registered foal and first black-type winner out of the stakes-placed Bugs Rabbit (Storm Cat), who is also the dam of an unnamed yearling colt by Kafwain.
