Rancho San Miguel et al's HYSTERICALADY (Distorted Humor) stalked the pacesetting Shaggy Mane (Bertrando) during the early running of Saturday's $340,800 Humana Distaff S. (G1) at Churchill Downs, easily took over in the stretch and pulled off to register a four-length victory while giving jockey Rafael Bejarano his fourth winner on the day. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the chestnut miss was sent off the 7-1 third pick and gave back $17.20, $5.80 and $4.20 while starting the $41.60 exacta, $466.80 trifecta and $3,492 superfecta (7-1-3-2).

Using the speed that enabled her take the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint, Shaggy Mane shot out of the gate and was soon on the lead, setting splits :22 2/5 and :45. Bejarano calmly moved Hystericalady up into contention while racing four wide, just behind the leader, and maintained his spot as Edgar Prado on Bushfire (Louis Quatorze) began hustling his filly nearing the turn. For a brief moment, Bushfire appeared ready to threaten, but it wasn't to be as Hystericalady easily moved past her rival and on to finish the seven-furlong test in 1:21 4/5 on the fast main track.

"We had her ready," Hollendorfer said. "She's been training well all week on this racetrack, and yesterday we got to school her in the paddock with the big crowd.

"She likes seven furlongs, but she can get more distance," he added. "I'll try to plan a course of action to get her to the fall. I'd love to be around for the Breeders' Cup (Distaff [G1])."

Even-money favorite Pussycat Doll (Real Quiet) was slow to start from her rail post, running along next to last in the early going, before rallying six wide in the stretch to take second by 1 3/4 lengths over Carriage Trail (Giant's Causeway). She returned $3.20 and $2.80 while Carriage Trail was worth $7.80 at 20-1 for grabbing third by a nose. Shaggy Mane settled for fourth and was followed by Leah's Secret (Tiger Ridge), Bushfire, Sweet Fervor (Seeking the Gold), Maryfield (Elusive Quality), Morner (Broken Vow) and Wildcat Bettie B (Meadowlake).

Hystericalady now boasts a 10-6-0-0 mark and more than doubled her earnings to $403,283. The four-year-old earned her first stakes win in the 2005 Juan Gonzalez Memorial S. and was an easy 7 1/2-length victress in the Hollywood Breeders' Cup Oaks (G2) last year. Bred by Abbott Properties in Kentucky, the chestnut filly sold twice, going for $100,000 as a Keeneland November weanling before bringing $125,000 from her current connections at the 2004 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Hystericalady is out of Chilean champion and 1992 Hawthorne H. (G2) victress Sacramentada (Chi) (Northair), making her a half-sister to stakes-placed Torrey Pines (Woodman) and Broad Picture (Broad Brush).
