Oak West Farm's ASHLEY'S KITTY (Tale of the Cat) moved to the fore turning
for home and held off a hard-charging Silver Swallow (Alphabet Soup) by a nose
at the wire to take the $111,000
Railbird S. (G3) at Hollywood Park on Sunday.
Trained by Ted West and piloted by Joseph Talamo, the chestnut filly rated in
midpack early before putting in her winning run, pulling clear in midstretch and
holding on late under steady left-handed urging. The winner completed the seven
furlongs in 1:22 4/5 over the Cushion Track, and rewarded backers with payouts
of $36.60, $12.40 and $5.80 at 17-1.
Silver Swallow was last early but closed with excellent energy in the latter
stages while widest of all, finishing two lengths clear of her nearest pursuer.
The runner-up paid $3.40 and $2.40 while finishing off the $58.20 exacta ($1) as
the 2-1 favorite. Sindy With An S (Broken Vow) attended the wicked early splits
of :21 3/5 and :43 4/5 for the opening half-mile before being passed by the top
pair in the stretch in a fine third-place effort. Show was worth $3.40, while
the trifecta returned $263.60 ($1) with the 5-2 second choice. High Cholesterol
(Until Sundown) was another four lengths back in fourth, capping the $3,497.30
superfecta ($1) (5-1-8-9) at nearly 21-1. Adoradora (Mr. Greeley) checked in fifth and was
trailed by Storm Queen (Stormy Atlantic), Coco Belle (Storm Boot), Forest
Huntress (Forestry) and Glorification (Buddha). Unusual Beauty (Unusual Heat)
was withdrawn.

Ashley's Kitty earned her third win from four career outings, more than
doubling her bankroll to $119,400 in the process. The filly was unplaced in the
Providencia S. (G3) over the turf most recently.
The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds and RNA'd for $32,000 at the 2006
OBS March Two-Year-Olds in training sale. Ashley's Kitty was produced from the
Grade 2-placed Pretty 'n Smart (Beau Genius), herself third in this race in
2001, and has a two-year-old full brother named Hepcat, as well as an unnamed
yearling half-sister by Lion Heart.
