Miss Macy Sue rallies for Winning Colors MISS MACY SUE (Trippi) bobbled at the start and drifted out during the early running of Monday's $110,100 Winning Colors S. (G3) at Churchill Downs. With Eusebio Razo Jr. aboard sporting the colors of Roll Reroll Stables, the dark bay miss stalked the quick early pace of :21 1/5 and :44 1/5 before taking over in midstretch, pulling off the 2 1/4-length score as the 9-5 second choice. The Kelly Von Hemel-trained four-year-old stopped the clock in 1:08 3/5 for six furlongs on the fast dirt, paying $5.60, $3.80 and $3.40 to her backers in the process. Cuaba (Smoke Glacken) rallied seven wide in the stretch to get up for second, returning $7 and $6 at nearly 9-1. Another 3 3/4 lengths back was Morethanaprincess (More Than Ready), who challenged for and got the lead through the half but quickly yielded. Show gave back $7.40. The exotics were worth $41.20 (exacta), $344 (trifecta) and $590.80 (7-6-5-1 superfecta). Ready to Please (More Than Ready), the 7-5 favorite, was a threat in the early running but began backing up and finished fourth. Next under the line were Ocean Current (Storm Cat), Flashy Lady (Vision and Verse), Morner (Broken Vow) and Arradoul (Dixieland Band). Miss Macy Sue tried graded company for the first time last October, running fifth in the Safely Kept Breeders' Cup S. (G3) at Laurel Park. She wasn't seen again until late March, and the five-month break obviously did some good as she returned to take the Carousel S. by six lengths and the Prairie Rose S. by 6 1/2 lengths prior to this one. Miss Macy Sue improved her career line to 14-7-3-1 with this, her first graded win, and has amassed $251,677 in lifetime earnings. Bred in Florida by Bryan J. Howlett, Miss Macy Sue brought $42,000 as an OBS June two-year-old and is out of Yada Yada (Great Above), who has since produced an unraced juvenile filly named Virginia Queen (Eltish) and an unnamed yearling colt by Alke.
