My Creed sweeps to Berkeley victory Seven Star Racing Stable and trainer Bob Hess Sr.'s MY CREED (Beau Genius) took the lead in early stretch and powered clear to a three-length score in the $100,000 Berkeley S. (G3) at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday. Rating toward the rear under Modesto Linares, the chestnut capitalized on a brisk early pace to set up his late run, blowing past 8-5 choice Visa Parade (Arg) (Parade Marshal) on his way to his first graded stakes win. The final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:43 2/5 on the fast track, and the 16-1 winner returned $34.20, $11.20 and $5. Visa Parade was in third behind a pair of dueling pacesetters for the initial six panels but lacked the acceleration of the winner. The runner-up paid $4.20 and $3.60 while finishing the $65 exacta ($1). Desert Boom (Boomerang) rallied late but fell a head behind the second-placer, settling for the show at 10-1. The gelding paid $5 and completed the $399 trifecta ($1) at 10-1. A Gallant Discover (Discover) capped the healthy $3,407 superfecta (8-1-2-3) ($1) at nearly 72-1 and was followed by Wanna Runner (El Corredor), Guiding Hand (Helmsman), Mambo Train (Kingmambo) and 6-5 choice McCann's Mojave (Memo [Chi]), who was eased in the lane after taking a short lead nearing the stretch. My Creed captured his fourth career stakes win, two of which have come in 2007, to boost his earnings to $305,150 from a 31-7-3-9 career mark. The six-year-old owns wins in the President's Day H., Emerald Downs Breeders' Cup Derby and James F. Lyttle Memorial H., as well as a quartet of stakes placings. The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by W. D. and Dave Fishback and was produced from the winning Test of Faith (Temperence Hill), making him a half-brother to the unraced two-year-old filly Larry's Love (Presidential Order).
