Worldly gets the jump in Cinema

Christopher Wright's WORLDLY (GB) (Selkirk) moved to the front at the head of the lane and kept a hard-trying Golden Balls (Ire) (Danehill Dancer) at bay late in posting a one-length win in the $113,500 Cinema Breeders' Cup H. (G3) over the firm Hollywood Park turf on Saturday. The Ben Cecil trainee was always in good striking position while third in the early going, inched closer following the six-furlong mark to sit in second, and quickly spurted clear in the lane under Victor Espinoza, completing 1 1/8 miles in 1:47 2/5. The 8-5 second choice was worth $5.20, $2.60 and $2.10.

Golden Balls was last early, moved into contention heading into the final turn, and finished well while never seriously threatening the winner late. The even-money choice paid $2.40 and $2.10 while completing the $4.30 exacta. Pacesetter Tycoon Doby (Cherokee Run) stayed on well in the stretch to hold the show spot, one length clear of his nearest pursuer. The 7-1 shot paid $2.60 while capping the $12.40 trifecta. Streets Ahead (GB) (Beat Hollow [GB]) sat on the bottom of the $27.70 superfecta (3-4-8-6), and was trailed by Mr Eddie Boy (Lemon Drop Kid). Star Inside (Ire) (Key of Luck), Gweebarra (GB) (Lomitas [GB]) and Level Red (Aptitude) were withdrawn.

Worldly was bred in Great Britain by Stratford Place Stud and purchased for a bargain price of $18,501 at the 2005 Tattersalls October sale. He is out of the Group 3-placed Miss Universe (Warning [GB]) and has an unraced two-year-old half-sister named Comeback Queen (Nayef).

From a 6-4-1-0 career mark, the winner now boasts $175,967 in lifetime earnings. He captured his U.S. debut, an allowance at Santa Anita, in early April before taking the Will Rogers S. (G3) prior to this one.
