Rated Fiesty dominates Debutante Heiligbrodt Racing Stable and JMJ Racing Stable's RATED FIESTY (Exchange Rate) extended her mark to a perfect three-for-three with a tour-de-force performance in Saturday's $111,000 Debutante S. (G3) at Churchill Downs. Breaking like a shot beneath Shaun Bridgmohan, the Steve Asmussen juvenile reeled off rapid splits of :21 2/5 and :45 while racing well in hand. In the stretch, the gray kicked clear, getting five furlongs in a blistering :56 3/5, and crossed the wire 6 1/2 lengths ahead in a final time of 1:09 1/5 for the fast-track six furlongs. The 1-2 favorite returned $3, $2.20 and $2.10, and she boosted her own bankroll to $204,291. "She is awesome," Bridgmohan said. "She's not much to look at, but man oh man, she is pretty awesome. She went around there really nice and kind. I know she went quick, but she just was willing the whole way, and was nice and comfortable the whole trip around there. When I asked her at the top of the stretch, she just kicked in. All I had to do in the last sixteenth of a mile was just gather her up and kept her together to the wire." "She's been very fast," Asmussen said. "Everything she's done, she's done quickly and easily. We had intentions of laying off them today, but once they broke, that was out the window. All three of her races looked like that." Dreabons Legacy (Proud Citizen) was in contention turning for home but could not match the winner's pure speed through the lane. Still, the 12-1 shot kept on gamely to prevail in a three-way finish for runner-up honors, giving back $8.60 and $4.80 while ending the $19.80 exacta. "Steve's filly is obviously the best filly in the country right now," said Steve Flint, who trains Dreabons Legacy. "Like I told that other gentleman, he asked me where I was going next, and I said, 'Wherever Rated Fiesty isn't.'" American County (Gibson County) snared third at 14-1 to yield $4.20 and finish the $92.80 trifecta. The 33-1 Love Buzz (Silver Charm) checked in fourth, resulting in a $693.20 superfecta (5-8-3-2). Flight Ruler (Minardi), Wonderful Luck (Trust N Luck), Miss Missile (Golden Missile) and Kadira (Kafwain) completed the order under the wire. A 4 3/4-length maiden special weight winner at Keeneland, Rated Fiesty rolled to a 4 1/2-length tally over males in the Kentucky Breeders' Cup S. (G3) last time out. Bred by the Heiligbrodts in Florida, she is the first foal from Grade 3 heroine Fiesty Countess (Count the Time), who captured six stakes in the course of her career. This is the family of Grade 1 queen Dance Teacher (Smarten), multiple Grade 2 winner and $1.5 million-earner Gold Mover (Gold Fever) and multiple Grade 2 victor High Limit (Maria's Mon).
