Making her turf debut, Glencrest Farm's PANTY RAID (Include) defeated a strong international field to claim Saturday's $750,000 American Oaks Invitational S. (G1) at Hollywood Park. Trainer Todd Pletcher was scoring his second straight win in the lucrative event, after champion Wait a While's (Maria's Mon) romp in the 2006 edition.

Jockey Edgar Prado settled the dark bay into a perfect stalking position in the opening stages, as Baroness Thatcher (Johannesburg) showed the way through fractions of :24 4/5, :49 2/5, 1:13 4/5 and 1:37 3/5, closely attended by Audacious Chloe (More Than Ready). Panty Raid delivered her winning move entering the stretch, striking the front and holding off the late charge of 5-2 favorite Valbenny (Ire) (Val Royal [Fr]) by three-quarters of a length. After completing 1 1/4 miles on the firm turf in 2:01 2/5, she returned $13, $5.40 and $3.20.

Valbenny raced in midpack in the early going, just to the inside of Anamato (Aus) (Redoute's Choice), and unleashed her patented stretch run. She tried hard to reel in the winner but was forced to settle for second, paying $3.40 and $2.60 and concluding the $23.20 exacta ($1). Although Anamato was fanned out wide on the turn and bumped with a rival in the lane, she closed resolutely for third. The 7-2 Aussie shipper gave back $3.60, rounding out the $136.80 trifecta ($1). It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to Communique (Smart Strike), the longest shot on the board, who defied her nearly 45-1 odds to produce a 4-3-6-7 superfecta totaling $1,742.40 ($1). Robe Decollete (Jpn) (Cozzene) checked in fifth, a neck in front of Just Little (Fr) (Grand Slam). Another nose back came Supposition (GB) (Dansili [GB]), whose saddle slipped, followed home by Baroness Thatcher and Audacious Chloe.

Panty Raid has now amassed $692,275 in earnings from her 6-4-1-0 line. She was coming off a driving score in the Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) at Pimlico, and earlier this season, she was a fast-finishing second in the Bourbonette Breeders' Cup S. (G3) on Turfway Park's Polytrack.

Bred by Heaven Trees Farm in Kentucky, the winner is out of the stakes-placed Adventurous Di (Private Account), making her a half-sister to listed hero Franc and an unnamed juvenile colt, both by Woodman. Panty Raid sold twice, going for $110,000 as a Fasig-Tipton July yearling before coming to her current connections for $275,000 as a Keeneland April two-year-old.
