Xchanger scores in Barbaro Circle Z Stables, Joseph Masone and trainer Mark Shuman's XCHANGER (Exchange Rate) overtook pacesetter Phone Home (Phone Trick) in early stretch and inched away to a professional one-length win in the $300,600 Barbaro S. (G3) at Delaware Park on Sunday. The Shuman trainee broke alertly and was second after the opening half-mile, which was recorded in :47. The winner began to look more prominent under Edgar Prado approaching the final turn and slowly began to draw away from the pacesetter, getting one mile in 1:36 3/5 before finishing 1 1/16 miles in 1:43 2/5. Sent off as the nearly 5-1 third choice, Xchanger paid $11.80, $4 and $3 while keying the $33.40 exacta, $124.40 trifecta and $282.80 superfecta (6-1-5-7). King of the Roxy (Littleexpectations) rallied well in the stretch after rating in third for much of the way, but the 3-5 shot was never going to catch the winner. The runner-up paid $2.60 and $2.10. Phone Home held well for third, paying $3.80 at 9-1. Longley (Seeking the Gold) encountered early traffic and made a big middle move along the rail prior to flattening out late. The 2-1 second choice was followed by Hal's My Hope (Halo's Image), Reptilian Smarts (Include) and Point Blake (Quiet American). Xchanger improved his lifetime mark to 10-4-0-2 in earning his second graded conquer. The gray colt was victorious in the Sapling S. (G3) and Federico Tesio S., with third-place efforts in the Nashua S. (G3) and Delta Jackpot S. (G3). The sophomore, who now sports $471,990 in earnings, was last seen finishing a distant eighth in the Preakness S. (G1). The winner was bred in the Sunshine State by Oscar Martinez and purchased for $40,000 at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May sale. The winner was produced from the winning Crafty Prospector mare Saragoza.
