Dream Rush dominates in Test

Dream Rush once again ran her rivals off their hooves (Joseph DiOrio/Horsephotos.com)

West Point Stable, Lewis Lakin and John Sikura's DREAM RUSH (Wild Rush) seized command a few jumps out of the gate and left little doubt who was best with a facile two-length score in the $250,000 Test S. (G1) at Saratoga on Saturday. The freakishly fast filly, trained by Richard Violette Jr. and piloted by Eibar Coa, led through an opening quarter-mile in :22 1/5, widened her lead when running four furlongs in :44 2/5, was 5 1/2 lengths clear when reaching six furlongs in 1:08 4/5, and completed the seven-furlong feature in 1:22 2/5. The 6-5 favorite paid $4.50, $3.20 and $2.50 while keying the $124 exacta and $757 trifecta (7-10-1).

"Twenty-two and one, twenty-two and two. I said, 'Wow, how sweet is that!'" Violette said. "The first quarter might have been the whole key. She broke sharp and just dragged (Coa) there. She wasn't pressured the whole quarter. She gets other horses off the bridle, and the sooner you get them off the bridle, you take them out of their game. She's just a very, very special horse.

"Obviously, the (October 26) Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (going six furlongs at Monmouth Park) is the ultimate goal. What we do in between, I'm not sure. There's nothing that is an automatic fit."

Boca Grande (A.P. Indy) had only two horses passed with three furlongs to go but closed strongly to gain the place, worth $18.80 and $10.80 as the 30-1 second longest price on the board. Baroness Thatcher (Johannesburg), always forwardly placed, was a clear second inside the final furlong but fell a neck shy of the place late, paying $4.90 to show at 9-1. Sheets (Scatmandu) was another 2 3/4 lengths back and followed by High Again (High Yield), Akronism (Not for Love), Debbie Got Even (Stephen Got Even), Silver Knockers (Silver Deputy), Astor Park (Ecton Park), 7-2 second choice Cotton Blossom (Broken Vow), Down (Mr. Greeley) and Time's Mistress (Mr. Greeley). Appealing Zophie (Successful Appeal) was withdrawn.

Dream Rush upped her mark to 8-6-2-0 with earnings that now stand at $599,739. The miss captured the Prioress Breeders' Cup S. (G1) last out, and also bagged the Nassau County Breeders' Cup S. (G2) and Old Hat S. (G3), with a runner-up effort in the Acorn S. (G1) thrown in the mix.

Bred in Kentucky by James Petrey Jr., Dream Rush sold for $285,000 at last year's OBS February two-year-old sale and hails from the unraced Unbridled mare Turbo Dream, who is also the dam of the stakes-placed filly Neeranjanie (Gentlemen [Arg]), an unnamed yearling filly by Salt Lake and an unnamed 2007 colt by Orientate.
