Tasha's Miracle seizes Sorrento

Team Valor and Budget Stablae's TASHA'S MIRACLE (Harlan's Holiday) took the lead leaving the far turn in Wednesday's $150,000 Sorrento S. (G3) and drew off in deep stretch for a 3 1/4-length victory in her stakes debut. A facile maiden special weight winner in her previous start at Hollywood Park, the John Sadler-trained juvenile filly improved her overall record to 3-2-1-0, $126,800, and completed 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:19 2/5 over Del Mar's Polytrack.

Vying for the lead from the break, Tasha's Miracle was a head back in second as even-money favorite One Hot Wish (Bring the Heat) established the opening quarter-mile in :22 3/5. Dueling four, and then three wide, Tasha's Miracle remained a head back in second as Elsie Jo (Richter Scale) passed the half-mile mark in :46 2/5 and asserted herself approaching the stretch, drawing one-length clear through six furlongs in 1:12 3/5 before pouring it on late.

David Flores guided the 2-1 second choice, who returned $6.40, $3.60 and $2.60. Set Play (Van Nistelrooy) held the place through the lane at 6-1 and was worth $6.40 and $4. It was a length back to the late-running Foxy Danseur (Mr. Greeley), who paid $3.80 at 8-1, and a gap of 4 1/4 lengths back to the 7-1 American County (Gibson County) in fourth. The $1 exotics yielded $16.20 (exacta), $56.50 (trifecta) and $192.80 (9-8-6-4 superfecta). Elsie Jo, Princess Susan M (Jump Start), One Hot Wish and Another Aleyna (Out of Place) rounded out the order of finish. Carbella (Cartwright) was withdrawn.

Bred in Florida by Martin Stables, Tasha's Miracle provides freshman sire Harlan's Holiday (Harlan), a $3.6 million earner who captured the 2002 runnings of the Blue Grass S. (G1) and Florida Derby (G1), with his first stakes winner at stud. The bay lass sold for $125,000 at the 2006 OBS August yearling sale and RNA'ed for $325,000 at the Barrett's March two-year-old sale. Tasha's Miracle hails from the winning Ms. Cuvee Napa (Relaunch), dam of 2003 Alcibiades S. (G2) third-placer Deb's Charm (Silver Charm), the stakes-placed sophomore filly Early Vintage (Jump Start) and an unnamed yearling filly by Spanish Steps.
