Dreaming of Liz leads the way in Arlington-Washington Lassie Frank Calabrese's homebred DREAMING OF LIZ (El Prado [Ire]) capped a memorable day for her owner when drawing off by 2 1/2 lengths to eclipse the $150,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie S. (G3) over the Polytrack on Saturday. In the previous race, Dreaming of Anna (Rahy), another Calabrese homebred, dominated her competition in the Pucker Up S. (G3). Breaking alertly under E.T. Baird, the Wayne Catalano-trained Dreaming of Liz quickly took command and established splits of :23 2/5, :46 2/5, 1:11 2/5 and 1:24 1/5 for the opening seven-eighths, prior to finishing off the one-mile test in 1:37. Sent off as the 3-2 favorite, the freshman filly paid $5, $3.80 and $3.20 while topping the $159.80 exacta, $1,710 trifecta and $40,079.40 superfecta (11-1-6-4). Rasierra (Kafwain) saved ground on the inside to the lane, challenged the winner in early stretch, and stayed on well to finish a clear second, 2 1/2 lengths ahead of her nearest pursuer. The 56-1 runner-up was good for $35.60 and $14.40. Minewander (Mineshaft) rallied from well back to earn third, paying $11.20 at 28-1. Love Buzz (Silver Charm) concluded the healthy super at 16-1 and was followed by Honest to Betsy (Yonaguska), Startswampindowski (El Corredor), Pretty Persuasion (Cape Town), Wonderful Luck (Trust N Luck), Pegasus Prospect (Fusaichi Pegasus), Eat Pie (Thunder Gulch) and La Wildcat (Forest Wildcat). Dreaming of Liz is now two-for-three in her career, following an impressive maiden win in her latest effort. The juvenile miss boasts earnings of $104,880. The Kentucky-bred followed in the footsteps of her dam, Grade 1 vixen Silver Maiden (Silver Buck), who captured the 1997 Arlington-Washington Lassie when it was a Grade 2 event. Silver Maiden, the winner of that year's Frizette S. (G1), has also produced the stakes-placed My Calabrese (Wild Again) as her first foal and stakes victress Liz on Polk Street (A.P. Indy) as her second one.
