Bear Now wires Cotillion Bear Stables Ltd.'s BEAR NOW (Tiznow) zipped to the front out of the gate and was never under duress in posting a comfortable two-length score in the $750,000 Cotillion H. (G2) at Philadelphia Park on Saturday. The Reade Baker trainee established splits of :23 2/5, :46 2/5, 1:10 and 1:34 3/5 for the opening mile, prior to stopping the teletimer in 1:41 1/5 for 1 1/16 miles beneath Jerry Baird. The 8-1 shot was worth $18.80, $6.20 and $4.20, while keying the $31 exacta and $150.60 trifecta (2-1-4). Octave (Unbridled's Song), the 1-5 choice, rated in third on the outside to the top of the lane, briefly challenged the winner in early stretch, and finished well enough to hold the place spot by one length. The gray filly returned $2.10 and $2.10. Talkin About Love (Not For Love) loomed large on the rail turning for home but couldn't match the top pair late, finishing 7 3/4 lengths clear of her nearest pursuer in third. Show paid $3 for the 7-1 third choice. Moon Catcher (Malibu Moon), the 9-2 second choice, rated in midpack but never fired late to finish fourth, and was followed by Exchanging Fire (Exchange Rate), Syd N Carly's Rose (Ecton Park) and Silverinyourpocket (Silver Deputy). Humble Janet (Humble Eleven) was withdrawn. Bear Now garnered her fourth stakes win of the year, following wins in the Selene S. (Can-G3), Duchess S. and Hill 'n' Dale S. The dark bay now boasts $812,414 in earnings from a 12-6-0-2 career mark. The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by ClassicStar, and brought a final bid of $65,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She is out of the multiple stakes-winning and Grade 2-placed Controlled (In Excess [Ire]) and has an unraced two-year-old half-sister named Bears Peacemaker (Deputy Commander), as well as an unnamed yearling half-brother by Vindication.
