Now Victory leads the way at the Bay

Per Antonsen and Harris Farms' NOW VICTORY (Sharp Victor) led at the start and never looked back in pulling a 31-1 shocker in the $140,000 Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup H. (G3) over the good turf on Saturday. Trained by Dean Pederson and guided by Frank Alvarado, the six-year-old established splits of :23, :46 2/5, 1:10 4/5 and 1:36 4/5, prior to reaching the about 1 1/8 miles in 1:47. The gelding lit up the toteboard with payoffs of $64.60, $22.60 and $8.60, while staying two lengths clear at the wire.

Jack's Wild (Lil Tyler) was last after the initial six panels but rallied strongly on the far outside to secure the place by one length. The 5-1 runner-up was good for $6.80 and $4.20 while finishing off the $158.50 exacta ($1). Macduff (GB) (Machiavellian) came three wide into the stretch to gain the third spot, worth $5.80 at 11-1. The $1 trifecta paid $2,006.70. Bold Chieftain (Chief Seattle) capped the healthy $7,237.20 superfecta ($1) (9-8-5-6) as the 5-2 second choice and was trailed by Isipingo (Horse Chestnut [SAf]), Chattahoochee War (War Chant), Blue Torpedo (Rahy), Shining Day (Comet Shine) and Sweet Roberto (Red Ransom). Heatseeker (Ire) (Giant's Causeway) was withdrawn.

Now Victory is now a four-time stakes winner, having already captured the Presidio S. and the last two runnings of the Joseph T. Grace H. The gelding has banked $352,046 from a 23-7-1-5 career mark.

The winner was bred in the Golden State by co-owner Harris Farms and was produced from the winning Dynaformer mare Zoelu. He has an unnamed yearling half-brother by Redattore (Brz) and an unnamed 2007 half-sister by Singletary.
