Big Brown tops final Derby Future Wager Florida Derby (G1) romper BIG BROWN (Boundary) was bet down to 3-1 favoritism at the conclusion of Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager on Sunday evening. The brilliant sophomore, who is unbeaten from three career starts, was not offered as an entity in either of the first two pools but handled the most money in the final offering. Louisiana Derby (G2) star PYRO (Pulpit), who was the most heavily backed individual entrant at 5-1 at the end of Pool 1 and was the 4-1 choice at the conclusion of Pool 2, was sent off at 5-1 in here. The Steve Asmussen charge is pointing toward a start in the $750,000 Blue Grass S. (G1) on Saturday at Keeneland. The lone other runner in single digits when Pool 3 closed was COLONEL JOHN (Tiznow), bet down to 6-1 fresh off his game tally in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) over the weekend for trainer Eoin Harty. Champion WAR PASS (Cherokee Run) was a close second in the Wood Memorial S. (G1) at Aqueduct on Saturday and was let off at 14-1 for conditioner Nick Zito. War Pass was 6-1 in Pool 1 and 9-2 in Pool 2. The mutuel field, consisting of all other three-year-olds, was also bet down to 14-1. Wood victor TALE OF EKATI (Tale of the Cat) closed at 18-1, Wood third COURT VISION (Gulch) was next at 19-1 and Fountain of Youth S. (G2) hero COOL COAL MAN (Mineshaft) ended the day at 20-1. Total wagering on Pool 3 reached $291,835, down 37.3 percent from the $465,123 wagered in 2007.
