Multiple Grade 1 hero Vineyard Haven has been retired and will stand his
first season at stud in 2012 at Brent and Crystal Fernung's Journeyman Stud near
Ocala, Florida.
In 2008, Vineyard Haven was the top two-year-old in New York after decisive
back-to-back Grade 1 wins in the Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga and Champagne Stakes
at Belmont. The gray son of Lido Palace got a late start to his U.S. sophomore
campaign after wintering in Dubai and posting a fourth-place run in the Group 3
U.A.E. Two Thousand Guineas. He returned stateside to finish ahead of a top
field in the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga in late August, but was
disqualified and placed second. In his following start, Vineyard Haven defeated
older horses in the Grade 1 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes at Laurel
Park.
Vineyard Haven competed in eight Grade 1 races during his career, winning
three and placing in two others, the Cigar Mile and Forego Stakes. The
Florida-bred five-year-old was last seen running a decent seventh in last year's
Cigar Mile and retires with earnings of $772,750 to go along with his 12-5-13
mark.

"Vineyard Haven is all Florida, and he embodies the great tradition of top
racehorses produced down here," Brent Fernung said. "When you look at what he
did while facing top company his entire career, they just don't make them much
classier than Vineyard Haven. On top of his talent and class, he's physically
exceptional and a very sound horse. We're thankful to Darley for the opportunity
to stand him, and we think he'll be popular among breeders."
Stud fees for the entire 2012 Journeyman Stud roster, including Vineyard
Haven, will be announced soon. For any inquiries, please contact Brent or
Crystal Fernung at 352-629-1200.
