Rapid Redux seeks history while going for 20th straight win

Robert L. Cole Jr.'s Rapid Redux will try to make racing history on Monday when he takes on 10 rivals, including one also-eligible, in the 8TH race at Mountaineer Park. The Pleasantly Perfect gelding is riding a 19-race win streak and seeks to set a new North American record in consecutive victories when he goes in the one-mile starter allowance.

Rapid Redux began his string of victories in an $8,000 claimer at Penn National in December 2010. He returned off that victory to take a $10,000 claimer at the same track just nine days later and continued running, and winning, twice a month until June of this season. The chestnut has scored at distances ranging from 4 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles during his career.

Rapid Redux tied the current modern-day record of 19 straight wins -- shared by Horse of the Year Zenyatta and undefeated New Mexico queen Peppers Pride -- when capturing a seven-furlong allowance at Laurel Park on October 27, which was his second win of the month.

His overall record currently stands at 25-1-1 from 39 races and $332,544 in lifetime earnings.

Trained by David Wells, the five-year-old Rapid Redux is three-for-three at Mountaineer Park and will get jockey Deshawn Parker, leading rider at the track, in the irons for his record-trying run.
