AQUEDUCT NOTEBOOK DECEMBER 8, 2011 by John Mucciolo There were no graded races over the weekend at Aqueduct. Track Stats A total of 45 races were held over Jamaica, New York, venue, with favorites winning at a 38 percent rate and the top two betting choices combining for 53 percent of the wins during the week. From 31 races on the main oval, four animals won in wire-to-wire fashion (13 percent), and three runners led at every call on the lawn from 14 races (21 percent). Speed on the lawn was better this week as it has been all meeting, with a trio of runners leading at every call on the weeds. All three of those races came in route events. The main oval may have favored horses from off the pace and on the outside all week, but it was not a violent bias in our estimation. Meet Totals
HORSES TO WATCH Wednesday (11/30) 3RD -- EMPRESS OF GOLD passed the eye test in here with a visually impressive score for trainer Bill Mott. The Empire Maker filly should only get better as the distances increase. Thursday (12/1) 5TH -- AGAVE KISS was never challenged in this one, which was a virtual workout. The talented juvenile filly by Lion Heart should be stakes bound in her next voyage for conditioner Rudy Rodriguez. 8TH -- REGAL WARRIOR was trapped behind a dawdling early pace, but closed well to miss by a head and a neck in this one. The Mitchell Friedman trainee will be tough with a move forward against similar in his subsequent try. Saturday (12/3) 4TH -- LAWYER DAVE had no chance following a very slow start, but did rally pretty well in the lane and should be sharper next out with this experience. We’ll keep an eye on this Lawyer Ron colt, especially when he stretches out. 6TH -- JONRAH showed a strong turn of foot in getting up late in a fine debut run for trainer Linda Rice. The gelded juvenile son of Bob and John is bred to handle a bit more ground and rates a chance as a win contender right back. Sunday (12/4) 8TH -- Laurel invader PRETENSION ran too well to lose in this spot and the Bluegrass Cat colt appears to have a bright future in front of him for trainer Christopher Grove. A Look Ahead There are no graded stakes this coming week at The Big A.
