AQUEDUCT NOTEBOOK JANUARY 12, 2012 by John Mucciolo There were no graded races last week at Aqueduct. Track Stats A total of 36 races were held over Jamaica, New York, venue, with favorites winning at a 44 percent rate and the top two betting choices combining for 81 percent of the wins during the week. From 36 races on the main oval, six animals won in wire-to-wire fashion (17 percent). There was no turf racing held this past week. The main oval was not great for speed types, but most of the winners this week were in the hunt turning for home. Thursday and Saturday both saw three wire jobs on the main oval, but horses won from all over on those days. It's hard to make any bias remarks when the top two choices combine for 81 percent of the wins during the week. Our guess is tracking the pace in the two or three-path isn't a bad thing. Half of the winners this week broke between posts 4 and 6. Meet Totals
HORSES TO WATCH Thursday (1/5) 3RD -- SINGLET was especially sharp in here in dispatching a solid a decent field today for conditioner Tony Dutrow. The sophomore daughter of Real Quiet could be in line for a graded sprint opportunity in her next test. 4TH -- FALAAH graduated in style in here for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, spurting to the front early and never looking back in a fine score. By Speightstown, the late bloomer should be mighty tough in his return and could evolve into a nice one if he stays healthy. Friday (1/6) 4TH -- MY GIRL GRACIE ran too well to lose in this one and should get the job done before long for Michael Hushion. The four-year-old has good speed and heart, and will be a winner soon. 8TH -- We loved the tally by YAWKEY WAY, who sat behind a clear leader and came home well for conditioner Chad Brown. The four-year-old filly gave indication that she could stretch out here, and could be a decent price going two turns. Saturday (1/7) 3RD -- Euro import WINNIE DIXIE ran a big one first time in the U.S. for McLaughlin, showing speed and finishing a solid second behind a well-meant winner. The four-year-old daughter of Dixie Union should show improvement off this one. 4TH -- DIGITAL JOE had a fine trip but never fired in the lane at short odds, and we wonder if the Gary Contessa pupil will ever graduate on this circuit. He won't be burning any of our money. Sunday (1/8) 8TH -- CAIXA ELETRONICA rebounded from an unplaced effort to blow past these rivals in the stretch here for Todd Pletcher. This most successful claim from last spring continues to show good ability at a wide range of distances. He came home in a swift :23 4/5 over this oval. A Look Ahead The $75,000 Ruthless Stakes on Saturday and Monday's $75,000 Jimmy Winkfield Stakes top the action this week at Aqueduct.
