Itsmyluckyday turns in final work for Florida Derby
A two-time stakes winner last year at Calder, Itsmyluckyday stamped himself as a three-year-old to watch when capturing the one-mile Gulfstream Derby on New Year's Day, registering a whopping 111 BRIS Speed rating for the 6 3/4-length score. The son of Lawyer Ron stretched back out to two turns in the Grade 3 Holy Bull at 1 1/16 miles on January 26, easily handing unbeaten two-year-old champion Shanghai Bobby his first setback with a two-length decision, and the dark bay Kentucky-bred colt received another top Speed rating of 106. Jockey Elvis Trujillo will retain the mount in the Florida Derby. The other confirmed Florida Derby participants are Shanghai Bobby, Orb, Frac Daddy, Merit Man, Narvaez, Are You Kidding Me, Pick of the Litter and Pontiff. Narvaez also breezed Saturday morning at Calder, recording five furlongs in 1:03 2/5 for trainer Agustin Bezara. The roan/gray son of Holy Bull finished in a dead-heat with Declan's Warrior last out in a 7 1/2-furlong allowance on March 9. Bezara sent out Reveron for a game second-place finish in the Florida Derby last year, beaten a length by Take Charge Indy with Union Rags another neck back in third.
