Uruguayan sensation Sir Fever set for Dubai after private sale

Turf Diario reported Monday that undefeated Uruguayan Triple Crown winner Sir Fever was purchased privately with a view toward a tilt at Dubai. Termed the most expensive sale ever for a Uruguayan horse, the deal was brokered by John Fulton Bloodstock. Fulton did not disclose the price or the buyer, but did indicate that the new connections are based in the United Arab Emirates.

Sir Fever brings a profile reminiscent of Invasor, who compiled a perfect career in Uruguay culminating in that nation's Triple Crown. Following his purchase by Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum, Invasor ventured to Dubai and lost his unbeaten status when fourth in the 2006 U.A.E. Derby. That turned out to be his only career loss. Invasor went on to sweep the Pimlico Special, Suburban, Whitney and Breeders' Cup Classic en route to Horse of the Year and champion older horse honors. The Kiaran McLaughin charge added the 2007 Donn Handicap and Dubai World Cup before injury prompted his retirement.

Unlike Invasor, who ran only once at two, Sir Fever was well experienced with six starts as a juvenile, all won by open lengths. The Jorge Piriz pupil capped his season with a seven-length romp in the June 29 Gran Criterium for colts (Potrillos).

Like Invasor, Sir Fever used the Clasico Ensayo as his springboard to Triple Crown glory. After readily landing that August 3 prep, Sir Fever dominated the September 7 Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos at a metric mile by nine lengths. He easily handled the step up to about 1 1/4 miles for the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the October 5 Gran Premio Jockey Club, and rolled by four lengths. Sir Fever also had no problem with the about 1 9/16 miles of the final jewel, the November 9 Gran Premio Nacional. Pulling 5 1/2 lengths clear, he became Uruguay's first Triple Crown winner since Invasor.

Sir Fever boasts a perfect 10-for-10 record. He will now try to translate his unbeatable form from his home track of Maronas to the world stage, beginning in Dubai. According to Turf Diario, his major target could be the March 28 U.A.E. Derby, or possibly even the Dubai World Cup.

Bred by Haras N.A. and campaigned by Oro Negro, Sir Fever is by Texas Fever, a Stonerside Stable homebred who scored his signature win in the 2007 Kentucky Cup Juvenile. Texas Fever is himself a son of Victory Gallop and Fortyniner Fever, a three-quarter sister to 2000 Kentucky Derby winner and sire Fusaichi Pegasus. Texas Fever's second dam, Angel Fever, is a full sister to 1992 Preakness victor and sire Pine Bluff.

Sir Fever is out of Argentinean-bred Sirina, a mare by the Rainbow Quest stallion Rainbow Corner. Sirina is a half-sister to Argentinean Group 2 winner Sirga, the dam of Group 3-placed Skyrush, who won the 2009 Harry F. Brubaker at Del Mar. Sir Fever's third dam is Argentinean Group 1 heroine Sesig, ancestress of multiple stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Solar Flare.
