Snowbell leads at every call in Comely

Snowbell, part of a Godolphin-owned three-horse entry favored at 9-5 in Saturday's Grade 3, $400,000 Comely at Aqueduct, stole the nine-furlong feature for three-year-old fillies on the front end.

Making her stakes debut for trainer Tom Albertrani, the gray set a tepid pace of :25, :50 4/5, and 1:16 1/5, and then kicked clear in the stretch to win by 2 1/4 lengths under Luis Saez.

"I know she likes the front, and the only other speed was part of the entry," Saez said. "I took the lead, and waited to see what would happen. At the half-mile, I knew I still had a lot of horse, and when I asked her in the stretch, she came on very well. That was good."

Snowbell returned $5.70 to win after completing the course in 1:52 2/5 over a fast track.

Shayjolie, the 29-1 longest shot in the field of eight, edged second choice Dame Dorothy for second by a neck. Penwith, Catch My Drift, Divided Attention, House Rules, and Flipcup completed the order of finish, while Princess Violet was withdrawn after contesting Friday's Go for Wand Handicap. Penwith and Divided Attention were coupled with Snowbell.

Snowbell was twice second and twice unplaced before she broke her maiden by four lengths going seven furlongs at Saratoga on August 4. Fourth in her allowance debut the following month, she returned in early October to take an off-the-turf allowance at Belmont by 8 1/2 lengths going 1 1/16 miles. Her record now stands at 8-3-2-0, $373,490.

Snowbell is a daughter of Tapit and the Grade 2-winning Burmilla, a Storm Cat full sister to multiple Grade 2 winner and producer Magicalmysterycat. Both were reared by multiple Grade 2 queen Nannerl. This extended family also includes multiple Grade 1 winner Fact Finder.
