House 'Rules' the Rampart
The inquiry sign was immediately posted as House Rules crossed under the wire 1 1/2 lengths in front of Sheer Drama, who just got her head in front of Wedding Toast for second. Soon after objections from both Bravo and Sheer Drama's trainer, David Fawkes, were lodged. After deliberating for a few moments, the stewards declared no changes would be made. "The pan shot looked worse," Jerkens noted. "After watching the head-on, I wasn't worried. I don't thing she came in much and it looked like the horse on the inside (Wedding Toast) came out a little and the jockey was hitting left-handed and she came out half a horse." "I had a beautiful trip," Castellano remarked. "I had to go wide a little bit around the turn and it cost me a couple lengths, but I didn't have a choice. I used my own judgment and it worked out great. "At the top of the stretch I tried to switch leads and all three horses were there together. I didn't come in at all, I just tried to switch leads with my horse and finally she did. I didn't realize that horse (Sheer Drama) was still there but still I was clear and in front of the other horses." House Rules is no stranger to Gulfstream Park, having broken her maiden at the track in January 2014 prior to placing in both the Davona Dale S. (G2) and Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2). She didn't factor in her remaining stakes races as a sophomore, but did romp at Saratoga and Aqueduct against allowance/optional claiming rivals. After closing out her three-year-old campaign with a well-beaten seventh in the Comely S. (G3) at Aqueduct, the dark bay filly opened her 2015 account with a 9 1/4-length triumph to take her first stakes win in the Bal Harbour H. on January 2. Now two-for-two on the year, she improved her career line to read 14-5-3-0 and boosted her lifetime earnings to $374,503. "All of her races here in Florida have been terrific," Jerkens said. "The races here with my father (Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens) were as good as she's running now. We just have to get her to duplicate them in New York. "It's great. (Graded wins) always helps her value and she's well bred on top of it. Every little bit helps," he added. "I don't know what's next. She probably won't run here again. We'll look for something back home in New York. I'm not one to look too far ahead." Bred in Kentucky by El Catorce Inc. and WinStar Farm LLC, House Rules was purchased for $90,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. She is the first registered stakes winner out of multiple Argentinean Group 2 victress Teamgesit (Mutakddim) and comes from an Argentinean black-type rich female family that includes Group 1 scorers El Baron (Egg Toss), El Azor (Lasting Approval) and Bab Dancer (Oak Dancer).
