Doremifasollatido scales new heights in Matron

Though incapable of carrying a tune, DOREMIFASOLLATIDO (Bernstein) has many other talents, many of which were on display in Saturday's $250,000 Matron S. (G2) at Belmont Park. Under a ground-saving ride by Eibar Coa, the Jimmy Jerkens trainee bullied her way in between rivals at the top of the stretch to take the lead and drew off for a two-length score in the historic juvenile filly fixture, completing seven furlongs over a good track in 1:24 3/5. The 3-1 second choice brought back $8.80, $4.90 and $3.40 while keying the $53 exacta, $406 trifecta and $2,581 superfecta (1-8-5-7).

Miss Ocean City (Mineshaft) was the early leader of the Matron, setting splits of :22 2/5 and :46. Trying to find more at the top of the stretch, she was soon overtaken by Doremifasollatido, who had moved off the rail, brushed with Argyle Pink (Sky Mesa) while splitting horses, and moved impressively to register the victory.

Making a wide rally from off the pace was 9-2 fourth choice Persistently (Smoke Glacken), who finished seven lengths clear in second and paid $5.10 and $3.80. Argyle Pink, at 13-1, held off Obsequious (Fusaichi Pegasus) by a head for the show and returned $7.50. Following in the order of finish were 2-1 favorite Heavenly Vision (Forestry), Miss Ocean City, On the Menu (Canadian Frontier), Saintly Rose (Graeme Hall) and Vegas Wedding (Chapel Royal).

Owned by Susan Moore and M & M Thoroughbred Partners, Doremifasollatido has now bankrolled $217,000 from a line of 4-2-2-0. She missed by a neck in her debut against New York-bred company on June 12 at Belmont, then returned to graduate at the same condition by six widening lengths on Independence Day. The juvenile miss made her stakes debut in the August 13 Adirondack S. (G2) at Saratoga, but proved no match for Mani Bhavan (Storm Boot), who won by seven lengths and returned to take the Spinaway S. (G1) later in the meet.

Bred in New York by Edward Messina, the winner sold for $110,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September sale. She is out of the unraced Green Dancer mare Consider it Done, making her a half-sister to 2004 Pebbles S. (G3) winner Fortunate Damsel (Runaway Groom), a yearling filly by Leroidesanimaux (Brz) named Considerate and a 2008 filly by Suave. Doremifasollatido's third dam, Top Corsage (Topsider), earned her signature victory as a three-year-old in the 1986 Spinster S. (G1).
