Alex Solis guided home all three Hollywood stakes winners on Saturday
(Lone Star Park) |
Jockey Alex Solis completed his sweep of all three graded stakes races at
Hollywood Park on Saturday when riding Stuart Kesselman and Tony and Marilyn
Melkonian's SIREN LURE (Joyeux Danseur) to victory in the $100,000
Los Angeles
Times H. (G3). It was also just another day at the track for trainer Art
Sherman, who has become the upset king lately after his charge, Carthage (Smoke Glacken), defeated champion sprinter Lost in the Fog (Lost Soldier) in the
Golden Gate Fields Sprint S. on April 22.Sandwiched between horses coming out of the gate, Siren Lure was forced to
the back of the pack and wide on the backstretch straightaway before Solis angled the
five-year-old gelding toward the rail on the turn. Meanwhile, Areyoutalkintome (Smokester)
and Prorunner (Tejano Run) had dueled through early fractions of :21 4/5 and :44
1/5. As those two continued to skirmish for the lead, Siren Lure was able to sneak up
along the rail before cutting to the outside to pass the leaders
late in the race, getting a length up on Areyoutalkintome at the
wire.
Sent off at 5-1, Siren Lure returned $12.40, $4.60 and $3.60, keying $1
exotics of $18.40 (exacta), $211.20 (trifecta) and $1,354.90 for the 4-2-6-1 superfecta. Areyoutalkintome paid $3.60 and $3 at almost 2-1 for the place while
Prorunner gave back $7 as the 28-1 longshot for the bronze position. Rounding
out the order of finish were Pure as Gold (Stolen Gold), Cigar Pal (Benchmark),
Oceanus (Brz) (Rainbow Corner [GB]), Secret Ridge (Brz) (Choctaw Ridge) and
Thunder Touch (Gulch).
Bred in Kentucky by Desperado Stables, Siren Lure is the first registered
foal out of the Gulch mare Cantamar, who has most recently produced a yearling
filly named Rock Anthem (Mud Route) and a 2006 colt by Freespool. By notching
his fifth career stakes victory, Siren Lure
improved his record to 18-10-0-3 while boosting his earnings to $409,909.

Earlier on the card, Solis enjoyed success in the Mervyn LeRoy H. (G2), winning by 3 1/2
lengths aboard Surf Cat (Sir Cat), and again crossed the wire first on Grey
Swallow (Ire) (Daylami [Ire]) in the Jim Murray Memorial H. (G2), five lengths the best.
This was Siren Lure's first contest against opponents on the fast main track
in more than a year, having competed over the turf since May, 2005, with the exception
of the Daytona H. two races back, which was taken off the turf and run on a
wet-fast track. The bay captured the Daytona by 1 1/2 lengths, following
consecutive scores in the Impressive Luck II H. and Blue Jay Way S.
