Miesque's Approval blasts to victory at Churchill Live Oak Plantation's homebred MIESQUE'S APPROVAL (Miesque's Son) ran in last during the early part of Saturday's $269,500 Firecracker Breeders' Cup H. (G2) at Churchill Downs, but steadily made up ground underneath jockey Eddie Castro to eventually pull off the 1 1/4-length victory in the mile firm turf test. Sent off the 3-5 favorite, the Marty Wolfson-trained seven-year-old stopped the clock in 1:34 2/5 and paid out $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10 to his faithful supporters. Therecomesatiger (Tiger Ridge) and Thunder Mission (Pulpit) battled it out in the beginning, with the former getting an opening quarter in :24 1/5 before his rival moved in front through a half in :47 and six furlongs in 1:10 4/5. All the while, Miesque's Approval was relaxed, running five wide on the backstretch before beginning to advance between foes on the far turn. He exchanged bumps with On the Border (Boundary) in the stretch, and the eventual winner took up the five-wide path yet again to go on and earn his second graded score of the year. Free Thinking (Unbridled) managed to get a neck in front of Therecomesatiger to take the place, returning $3.40 and $2.60 at 4-1, while third gave back $2.80 at 6-1. It was another 3 3/4 lengths back to Thunder Mission, who rounded out the 1-3-6-7 superfecta that paid $221.20, and next came Place Cowboy (Ire) (Compton Place), Gigawatt (Wild Again) and On the Border. The exacta gave back $9.40 and the trifecta was worth $36. Miesque's Approval started off his seven-year-old season in fine fashion, taking the Sunshine Millions Turf S. before just missing by three parts of a length in the Canadian Turf H. in March. In his race prior to this one, the Maker's Mark Mile S. (G2) at Keeneland, the bay horse recorded a nose victory, and he now owns a 36-10-10-5 record with $1,360,079 in lifetime earnings. Bred in Florida, Miesque's Approval is out of winning With Approval mare Win Approval, who is also the dam of Canadian Grade 2 winner Revved Up (Sultry Song) and an unnamed 2006 filly by Running Stag.
