Wildcat roars in Prioress Oasis Racing's WILDCAT BETTIE B (Meadowlake) raced well behind the leaders in Saturday's $250,000 Prioress Breeders' Cup S. (G1) at Belmont Park, commenced her rally as the longtime pacesetters faded, and just managed to get her neck down on the wire to take the victory under jockey Mario Pino. The J. Larry Jones-trained sophomore finished the six-furlong, fast-track feature in 1:09 to return $12.80, $7.20 and $4.70 as the 5-1 fourth choice. When the gates opened, four fillies shot to the front seeking the advantage. At the end of the opening quarter, Win McCool (Giant's Causeway) had the edge, and by the half, she and Misty Rosette (Stormin Fever) had separated themselves from the rest with Diplomat Lady (Forestry) not far back. Win McCool set the blistering splits of :21 4/5, :44 1/5 and :56 2/5, but the pace began to take its toll as the field reached the stretch. Wildcat Bettie B then came four wide around the fading Win McCool and Misty Rosette. She didn't have things her own way, though, as fellow closer Wild Gams (Forest Wildcat) put in her run late. Wild Gams took the lead leaving the eighth pole, but she ultimately fell a neck short of Wildcat Bettie B at the line. Sent off the 18-1 second longest shot on the board, the Ben Perkins Jr. charge paid $16.20 and $11.60 while ending the $139.50 exacta. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back to Livermore Valley (Mt. Livermore), who gave back $8.20 as the 21-1 longshot in the eight-horse field and completed the $1,560 trifecta. Diplomat Lady managed to hang on to fourth by a neck over Misty Rosette, rounding out the $11,769 superfecta (4-3-8-7). Another head back came Win McCool and she was followed by Capote's Crown (Capote) and Silvestris (Forest Wildcat). Downthedustyroad (Storm and a Half) was scratched. Wildcat Bettie B entered Saturday's event having not competed since taking the May 19 Miss Preakness S. (G3). She also captured the Dixie Belle S. and placed in the Beaumont S. (G2) earlier this year, and now boasts an 8-5-0-1 career mark and $313,420 in earnings. Bred in Kentucky by Barry Becker & Judith Becker, the chestnut lass is the first registered foal out of multiple stakes winner One Number Short (Katowice), who also has an unnamed 2006 colt by Free at Last. Wildcat Bettie B brought $42,000 as a Keeneland September yearling.
