Go Deputy gets his graded win in Bowling Green

Wertheimer & Frere's homebred GO DEPUTY (Deputy Minister) took the lead turning for home and powered away to a half-length win in the $147,000 Bowling Green H. (G2) at Belmont Park on Saturday. Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Fernando Jara, Go Deputy was hammered at the windows to 3-5 and gave back $3.40, $2.30 and $2.10, while topping the $19 exacta and $63.50 trifecta.

Gigli (Brz) (Clackson) went right to the front after the start and dawdled his way on the lead through pedestrian splits of :26 3/5, :53 4/5, 1:19 and 1:42 3/5 for the opening mile. As the group quickened on the turn for home, Go Deputy asserted herself immediately and opened up, having only to hold off a hard-charging Crown Point (Honor Grades) to the wire. The final time for the 1 3/8 miles on the firm turf was 2:17 2/5.

Crown Point did well off a seven-month layoff to garner the place, worth $6.30 and $3.60 at 11-1. Leadwithyourchin (Dynaformer) was another three lengths back, paying $3.30 for the show at 8-1, and was followed by Gigli and Rochester (Green Dancer). Request for Parole (Judge T C) and Take the Bluff (Pine Bluff) were withdrawn.

Go Deputy grabbed his first stakes win with this one and moved his career mark to 15-5-6-1 with earnings of $363,120. The six-year-old has been close of late, placing in the Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup S. (G1), Pan American H. (G3), Mac Diarmida H. (G3) and Elkhorn S. (G3), before finally breaking through in this one.

The winner, bred in Kentucky, was produced from the winning Partygoer (Secretariat), making him a half-brother to multiple Grade 1 hero Dare and Go (Alydar).

Seth Benzel, assistant trainer to Pletcher, mentioned the August 12 Sword Dancer Invitational (G1) as a possibility for Go Deputy's next start.
