Mo Cuishle remains unbeaten in Monmouth Oaks

Martin, Rucker and O'Grady's MO CUISHLE (Saint Ballado) seized the advantage after six furlongs and powered home an authoritative 7 1/4-length winner of the $200,000 Monmouth Breeders' Cup Oaks (G3) on Sunday. Breaking alertly beneath Jose Santos, the Todd Pletcher trainee sat behind pacesetter Peak Maria's Way (Pyramid Peak) for the initial half-mile before tugging her way to the lead, and from there the undefeated three-year-old did the rest, finishing 1 1/16 miles in 1:43. Sent off as the 3-1 third choice, the miss rewarded her backers with mututels of $8.40, $4.60 and $3.80 while topping the $44.60 exacta, $131 trifecta ($1) and $501.10 superfecta ($1).

Gasia closed from midpack to gain the place spot, 1 1/2 lengths clear of her next competitor. The 5-2 second choice paid $4 and $2.80. Peak Maria's Way retained the show spot, paying $4 in the process as the 15-1 longest shot on the board. Last Romance (Wild Rush) was an even fourth and trailed by Love Locket (Thunder Gulch) and 2-1 favorite Amandatude (Aptitude).

Mo Cuishle is now perfect from three starts and boosted her bankroll to $164,400 following the win. The winner was bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones and is the first foal out of Officiate (Deputy Minister). She counts a trio of unnamed colts as half-brothers, including a two-year-old by Forestry, a yearling by Distorted Humor and a 2006 foal by Forestry.
