Principle Secret scores in Best Pal C R Cono LLC's PRINCIPLE SECRET (Sea of Secrets) was sent off the 7-5 favorite in Sunday's $150,000 Best Pal S. (G2) at Del Mar, and ran to his odds under Alex Solis in moving his record to a perfect two-for-two. Trained by Christopher Paasch, the dark bay juvenile finished 6 1/2 furlongs on the fast dirt in 1:16, paying $4.80, $3.20 and $2.60. Despite the commanding win, it wasn't all clear sailing for Principle Secret. When the gates opened, the colt stumbled and nearly went to his knees, but managed to recover and settle in midpack as Stella's Posada (Star of Valor) set the opening fractions of :22 1/5 and :45 1/5. Moving up on the outside nearing the turn, Principle Secret took over at the top of the stretch and pulled off by three lengths as much the best. Great Hunter (Aptitude) split horses in midstretch but could never get to the winner, settling for second 2 1/2 lengths clear of Stormello (Stormy Atlantic) to return $4 and $2.80 at 3-1. Stormello chased in second throughout, but fell back late to give back $3 at nearly 4-1 for third. It was another half-length back to Hot Flame (Flame Thrower), who was followed under the line by Divide and Conquer (Mr. Greeley), Mr. Negotiator (Stormin Fever), Cobalt Blue (Golden Missile) and Stella's Posada. The $1 exotics were worth $8.80 (exacta), $24.50 (trifecta) and $218.60 (5-2-6-4 superfecta). With the winner's share, Principle Secret has now earned $121,800. Bred in Kentucky by Victory Racing LLC, he is the first registered foal out of the winning Beright (Gray Slewpy) and has an unnamed 2006 half-sister by Lost Soldier.
