Miesque's Approval closes with a rush in Red Bank Live Oak Stud's homebred MIESQUE'S APPROVAL (Miesque's Son) outgamed a stubborn Hotstufanthensome (Awesome Again) to the wire to post a half-length tally in Saturday's $150,000 Red Bank S. (G3) over Monmouth Park's turf course. Rating well off the quick pace in the early stages under Eddie Castro, the seven-year-old commenced his run on the far turn and inched to the lead in the lane, completing a mile over firm turf in a brisk 1:33 1/5. Trained by Marty Wolfson, the bay went off the near 6-5 choice and rewarded his backers with mutuels of $4.20, $2.40 and $2.20. Tune of the Spirit (Concorde's Tune) took over after a quarter-mile and led the field through smart fractions of :45 4/5 and 1:09 through six furlongs. As the field turned for home, 2-1 second choice Hotstufanthensome surged between horses to open a slight advantage but couldn't match strides with the winner late in an admirable runner-up finish. Senor Swinger (El Prado [Ire]) made a belated bid in the lane to garner the show spot at 14-1, another 2 3/4 lengths in arrears. The place was good for $2.80 and $2.40, while the show gave back $3.80. The winning exacta returned $9, while the 5-4-8 trifecta paid $64.60. Tune of the Spirit held well to retain fourth and was followed by Indy Wind (A.P. Indy), Key Event (Royal Anthem), Old Dodge (Brz) (Dodge), Patrol (Lear Fan) and Pulpit Talk (Red Ransom). Touched by Madness (Sword Dance [Ire]) and Miracle Man (Yankee Victor), who was a main-track only entrant, were withdrawn. Miesque's Approval continues to improve his superb 2006 campaign by winning for the fourth time in five starts this year, including victories in the Makers Mark Mile S. (G2) and Firecracker Breeders' Cup H. (G2) in his last pair. The bay sports a lifetime mark of 37-11-10-5 with earnings of $1,450,079, which includes wins in the Sunshine Millions Turf S. in his first start of the season, 2002 Kent Breeders' Cup S. (G3) and Bonnie Heath Turf Cup H., 2001 Pilgrim S. and the 2005 Old Ironsides S, as well as 10 other stakes placings. Bred in the Sunshine State, the winner was produced from the winning Win Approval (With Approval) and preceded in stakes glory by millionaire Canadian Grade 2 hero Revved Up (Sultry Song). Miesque's Approval also has a 2006 unnamed half-sister by Running Stag.
